Big Gums Over Steep Blocks
Out west, the gums aren't at the end of the street. They're over the house. Leaf, bark and twigs come down every month of the year, and long strips of bark can bridge right across a gutter.
The slope makes it worse. On a steep block, water that spills from a gutter doesn't soak in. It runs, and it takes the mulch, the garden beds and sometimes the edge of the driveway with it.

Most western homes suit our expanded aluminium mesh with 3 mm holes. On the bushland edge we specify the woven EmberGuard instead, with a tighter 2 mm weave that keeps out finer litter. Both are aluminium, finished in our proprietary coating.
Whichever one you get, it sits over the gutters you already have. Gum leaf and bark slide off with the wind and rain, and the water keeps running to the downpipes.

Which mesh do you use on bushland-edge homes?
Usually our woven EmberGuard. Its 2 mm weave keeps finer litter out. The 3 mm expanded aluminium mesh suits homes further in from the bush.
Is the mesh rated for a bushfire attack level?
We don't claim a tested rating for it, and we'd rather say so plainly. It's aluminium, which is non-combustible, and it stops the gutter holding a bed of dry leaf and bark.
Our block is steep and the overflow washes out the garden. Will this fix it?
Where leaves are the cause, it keeps them from filling the gutter back up. It can't make a gutter carry more water than it was built for, though, so if a clear gutter still spills, that's a job for a roof plumber.
Can you fit mesh to an old Indooroopilly Queenslander?
Yes. Older timber homes often have a shallow gutter hard up against the original fascia, so we fix the mesh without damaging that timber. We'll tell you what we find behind the gutter during the free clean.
What changes the price on a hillside home?
Mostly access. A downhill gutter two storeys up takes more setting up than a flat site. The length of gutter and whether you need the finer EmberGuard mesh matter too. The quote is free, and the price is fixed in writing.
