Gutter Cleaning in Brisbane, No Gutter Guard Needed

We clear out everything that's built up in the gutters: leaves, bark, gum nuts and the sludge packed down underneath. Then we check that water can run the length of each gutter and get away down the downpipe. That's a gutter clean with us. There's no gutter guard involved unless you ask about it.

We clean gutters right through the northside, including Chermside, Aspley and Everton Park. Many homes here went up after the war, and the street trees were planted at the same time. Those gums, jacarandas, figs and poincianas now stand taller than the houses. That's why northside gutters fill faster than most owners expect.

Those post-war homes are where the timber eaves take a beating. When one of their gutters overflows, the water creeps back behind it and soaks the fascia boards.

Everton Park adds height. The ground falls away toward Kedron Brook, and a high-set home there can have its rear gutter two storeys off the ground. It's often the one nobody has touched in years.

Southside gutters mostly fill from the backyard. The blocks around Mount Gravatt, Sunnybank and Holland Park are roomy, and owners have filled them with trees over the years. A mango, a poinciana and a tall gum can all lean over the one roof. We clean gutters all over the southside, from Coorparoo out to Wishart and Mansfield.

Lots of homes here are split-level or high-set, with roofs that funnel leaf downhill. It slides off the steepest parts and ends up in the corners of the gutter. One corner can spill over while the other end looks fine.

Leave it long enough and that water works its way in behind the gutter. By then you're up for a fascia repair as well as the clean.

The eastern suburbs stretch from Carindale out to Wynnum and Manly, and down near the bay, salt is the thing to watch. Leaf that sits wet in a gutter keeps salt pressed against the metal, and over time that shortens the gutter's life. Clear the leaf out and the gutter can dry between showers.

The western suburbs sit under the city's thickest canopy. Around Kenmore, The Gap, Indooroopilly and Chapel Hill, tall gums lean right over the houses. Their bark peels off in long strips that can lie right across a gutter.

Plenty of those western homes sit on steep blocks too. On the downhill side, the gutter can be a full two storeys up.

There's no flat rate. We price each Brisbane clean on its own, and it mostly depends on the size of the house, how many storeys it has and how much is packed into the gutters. The quote is free, and you'll know the price before we start.

Height is the one to watch in the hillier suburbs. Around Everton Park or Chapel Hill, the land drops away behind plenty of homes, and the back gutter ends up two storeys high. That changes the setup, so the quote allows for it.

Then there's the load. Under a big gum or fig, a gutter that's gone a few years without a clean can be packed solid, sometimes with weeds sprouting out of it. That takes a lot longer to clear than a light scatter of leaf.

On the quote form, add your suburb, pick single or two-storey, and mention what's growing over the roof.

Book before the summer storms, and earlier if there are gums over your roof. A short Brisbane downpour drops a lot of water in minutes, and a gutter packed with leaf has nowhere to send it. A clean ahead of the storms gives that water a clear run to the downpipe.

You're overdue if leaf is poking up past the gutter lip. Same if grass or seedlings are sprouting in it, or rain pours over the front edge in a shower.

On the bushland edge, out west and up north, there's another reason to get in early. In a dry spring, a gutter full of dry leaf gives embers something to light.

Please leave the high ones to us. A sloping block often has no flat ground for a ladder, and wet sludge gets heavy fast when you're lifting it that far up.
